About the IB Middle Years Programme

Punta Gorda Middle School Punta Gorda Middle School is a candidate school* for the MYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
The Middle Years Programme is designed for students ages 11 to 16 and focuses on developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people through rigorous academics, intercultural understanding, and real-world learning experiences. The program encourages students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners while building the critical thinking and leadership skills needed for success in a global society.
Program Expectations
No grade lower than a "B" in any subject in the prior school year.
Level 4 or 5 on the most recent ELA, Math, and Science state assessments.
A minimum 95% attendance rate.
No discipline referrals in the past 12 months.

Key facts about the MYP
The MYP has been implemented by 1,859 schools in 127 countries. The PGMS IB program is the first and only in Charlotte County.

Transitions from the MYP
After finishing the MYP, students are well-prepared for further education, including national and international courses of study for 16-19 year olds.
