Message From Leadership

Hello Eagle Families,

Week 1 of Quarter 2 was a busy and exciting one! We are incredibly proud of our Eagles for finishing the first quarter strong and stepping right into the new quarter with so much energy.

We wrapped up a wonderful Spirit Week and hosted a hugely successful first school dance! The creativity, school spirit, and unique outfits displayed by our students all week were amazing to see. Thank you to everyone who participated and made it so special.

On Friday, we held our very first PBIS celebration for all students who earned at least two Eagle chips! The students had a fantastic time, and it was inspiring to see such high participation across every grade level. Staff members award Eagle chips to recognize positive behavior, character, and academic effort. We encourage all students to keep earning chips as we continue celebrating their successes throughout the year!

We look forward to recognizing our students' academic excellence from Quarter 1! Honor Roll ceremonies will take place on October 28th (7th), 29th (6th), and 30th (8th). Any student who earned all A's and B's for the first quarter will receive an invitation next week with their specific date. This year, presentations will be held at CPAC, starting promptly at 8:00 AM each morning.

As we dive deeper into Quarter 2, our primary character focus is Accountability. We are emphasizing to students that true accountability starts with individual daily choices; taking ownership of their schoolwork, managing their time wisely, coming to class on time & prepared, and accepting responsibility for their actions and interactions. When students hold themselves accountable for their own success, they build habits that serve them for a lifetime!

A few updates in regard to our Eagle Family. Farewell to Ms. Caron! We want to wish her all the best as she departs PGM. She has been such a wonderful asset to our school family and will be missed. We are actively interviewing for this position and are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for our students.

We would also like to welcome Ms. Whitehead as our new mathematics instructor, stepping into the role previously held by Ms. Morella! While Ms. Whitehead is already a familiar face in the PGM family, we are thrilled to have her in this new capacity supporting our math students.

Attendance reminder: the school must be notified at least 5 school days in advance of any planned trips or special events; Pre-planned absences without this notice will be marked as unexcused. Note: Absences are excused at the principal's discretion, depending on the student's attendance record and academic standing.

Our next SAC/PTO meeting is October 20th @ 5:30 in the media center. We hope you will join us!

Thank you for partnering with us to keep your student's learning journey going strong!

After School Tutoring

We are excited to announce that we have opened a new tutoring session specifically for credit recovery! Sessions will be held on Wednesdays only, beginning Wednesday, October 28. If your student needs credit recovery support, please sign up now using the link below.

PBIS at PGMS

You may have heard your child or a staff member mention PBIS or Eagle Chips but weren't sure what these are. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, an evidence-based framework used at PGM and across the district to proactively teach, support, and reinforce positive student behavior rather than relying solely on punishment.

Clear Expectations: Schools define simple, positive rules for all areas like hallways and classrooms. At PGM, we use SOAR behaviors which stand for Strive for Success, Opt for Honesty, Act Responsibly, and Respect Others.

Explicit Teaching: Staff directly teach these expected behaviors to students instead of assuming they already know them.

Positive Reinforcement: Schools reward and praise students when they follow the rules, aiming for a high ratio of positive feedback to corrections. This is where staff use Eagle Chips to reward student SOAR behaviors.

Data-Driven Decisions: School leaders and teachers track behavior data to see where issues happen and adjust support accordingly. This empowers the school to address concerns effectively and quickly.

Stay tuned to find out more about PBIS and the positive impacts it's having on students at PGMS!
