We made it to fall! Time for pumpkins and apples and cold weather and leaves changing…. well in FL we can pretend anyway. This time of year though, reminds us that change can be beautiful and welcomed. As our kids change throughout the years one thing remains the same…it’s our job to give them truthful information to help them make good choices and stay safe. During this time of year, we are faced with a mix of normal school schedules and time off during holidays. We have fun family events and traditions scheduled. We also see as our kids get older that they want to spend some of this time with friends.
It is so important that we always remember to teach our kids about the dangers of prescription drug misuse. While most parents do their best to keep medications put away safely where kids cannot access them, our kids may be at friends houses where that may not be the case unintentionally. Kids are naturally curious and sometimes have a false sense of safety about medications because they are given by medical professionals.
As we enter the fall season it can be a great opportunity to talk with your kids about not taking medicine not prescribed to them, not sharing medications, and how prescription drug misuse can hurt them. It’s also a great time to get rid of any expired or unused medications and to make sure all medications are properly stored out of reach of kids. For more information please visit: saferx.tips.
