Message From Leadership

Dear Punta Middle School Families,

As we move toward the end of the quarter and the holiday season, we’ve noticed an increase in some student behavior concerns. We truly appreciate your partnership in helping reinforce positive choices and expectations both at home and at school.

As a reminder:
  • If a student earns four minor referrals for the same behavior, it will result in a major referral.
  • Any additional minor referral after the fourth will also result in a major referral.
  • Minor referrals will reset at the start of second semester in January. Please keep this in mind when discussing it with your child.
Repeated offenses of the same behavior will lead to progressive discipline, which may include suspension. Our goal is to support students in making positive choices and maintaining a safe, respectful learning environment for everyone.

Some of the main areas we’ve been addressing include tardies, missing ID badges, defiance, and disrespect—both toward peers and staff. We take these behaviors seriously and handle them with progressive discipline when needed. Our goal is always to help students learn from their mistakes and make positive changes moving forward.

Communication and Support:
Teachers contact home when a student receives a minor infraction for their first or second infraction. If you would like to discuss the situation further, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher directly. If you would like to schedule a conference, please contact your child’s grade-level counselor, who will be happy to assist with arrangements.

Student Badges:
Students are expected to wear their school badge and lanyard at all times, as this is a state requirement. If a student forgets or loses their badge, they can purchase a replacement each morning at the bus loop or parent drop-off area for $5. Every student will receive a new badge and lanyard at the start of second semester. At times, we may need to call home and ask that a badge and lanyard be brought to school before the student can attend class. Thank you for helping us keep this system running smoothly.

SOAR Expectations:
Students are expected to follow our SOAR Expectations in all areas of the school. Recently, we held grade-level meetings to review what SOAR looks like in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and common spaces. Please take a few minutes to talk with your child about these expectations and how they can demonstrate them each day.

We are grateful for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can help our students finish the semester strong and make positive choices that set them up for success in the new year.

Thank you,
Discipline Team
